effective methods and devices for immediate air purification
The pandemic resulting from the spread of Covid-19 has disrupted the daily lives of people around the world. For fear of the virus and to prevent its further spread, there have been and still are restrictions on travel, curfews, and closures of shops and restaurants. People wear protective masks, wash and disinfect their hands frequently and regularly, and regularly aerate the rooms in which they stay or work. And yet, there are residual doubts: are there not viruses in the air when many people are sitting in a restaurant, waiting for their appointment in the waiting room of a doctor’s office, or study together in a classroom?
Filtration specialists from MANN+HUMMEL Ludwigsburg, Germany), a company with which we collaborate and distribute products and systems, have developed effective methods and devices to reliably clean air.
Who is MANN+HUMMEL?
MANN+HUMMEL is a world leader in filtration based in Ludwigsburg, Germany; it is a group that develops filtration solutions for cars, trucks, industrial applications, HVAC (acronym
English for ventilation, air conditioning, and heating systems and their components) and in water treatment. In 2019, with over 22,000 employees in over 80 locations around the world, it generated a turnover of 4.2 billion euros.
Taking advantage of the knowledge and technology available, it has developed antiviral air purifiers – equipped with HEPA H14 filters certified according to ISO 29463 and EN1822 -, able to filter safely beyond 99,995 % of harmful viruses, bacteria, and micro-organisms in the environment.
The devices are compact and quiet, inexpensive to use, and easy to maintain.
THE PRODUCTS IN BRIEF
Depending on the size of the premises where to install them, three mobile purification systems are available, which provide healthier and virus-free air:
OurAir SQ 500 (up to 40 m2), OurAir TK 850 (up to 70 m2) and OurAir SQ 2500 (up to 200 m2). For particularly large environments it is possible to use different units in a modular way.
These systems do not need any preparatory work, they are “plug-and-play” and, as soon as connected to the electricity grid and switched on, they immediately provide healthier air.
Each model in the range is equipped with a HEPA H14 filter that captures over 99.995% of viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms from the air and is tested individually to ensure the highest level of safety.
These air purifiers provide air quality equivalent to that found in surgery rooms, helping to make indoor environments a safe and virus-free environment.
HEPA FILTER
Unfortunately, “HEPA filter” is not an unambiguous term and can be misleading; there are indeed different levels of efficiency that fall under the definition “HEPA”. In order to effectively filter viruses, are necessary filter elements that are defined by class H14. Each HEPA H14 air filter installed in the proposed purifiers is tested and certified individually, according to ISO 29463 and EN 1822. It is equipped with a Filter medium ePTFE specially designed to be energy-efficient.. Recent measurements, carried out by the Institute for Mechanical Process Technology and Mechanical Systems (MVM) of KIT (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie) in Karlsruhe (D), also in the classroom of an elementary school, demonstrated the high efficiency of the devices in terms of reduced aerosol concentrations and, therefore, reduced risk of infection with viruses and bacteria. Studies have shown that it was possible to reduce aerosol concentration in the room by 50% within four minutes and by 90% within 15 minutes. The applications of these HEPA air purifiers are therefore extremely wide and extend to all environments in which a large number of people meet or spend time together: nurseries, schools, universities, homes for the elderly and care, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and retail premises, shops, places of events and transportation. A further proposal that we can offer, drawing on the product range of MANN+HUMMEL, is to provide the upgrade for the existing heating and ventilation systems, proposing HEPA filters with higher filtration levels than those normally expected, which thus improve the quality of the air diffused in the environments integrating them, if necessary, with the OurAir mobile units. Great versatility: no matter whether the virus mutates or the pandemic subsides – the filters do not fail to serve their purpose. So even flu viruses and pollen have no escape, with these devices, thanks to which even allergy sufferers can breathe easily.
